Sandal is a utility program distributed with Sonar and Yank. These programs use Sandal to read file change events from your file system.
Sandal is based on GFSLogger by Rian Hunter. Sandal offers certain improvements over GFSLogger, such as XML output and support for certain command line arguments that can be used to increase performance speed.
Copyright and license info
Sandal is an open-source free software released under the GNU Public License (GPL). Sandal is ©2005 by Matterform Media, with portions ©2005 by Rian Hunter.
The Sandal source code is included in the Sonar and Yank application packages. We do not authorize any distribution of our products without Sandal source code, so we do not offer source code via snail mail.
The Sonar source code is not available. Sonar is closed-source, proprietary, commercial software distributed with Sandal, an open-source, free program (see GNU definitions of these terms). Sonar installs Sandal in your Application Support folder, runs Sandal in a shell, and reads the Sandal output in XML form from standard output. The Sandal/Sonar combined distribution is permitted by the GPL "mere aggregation" clause. You can run Sandal without Sonar and read the very same output. However, Sonar provides many additional features, such as an attractive graphical interface, event filtering, unlimited event caching, event searching, an electronic manual, technical support and more.
